Tesla Warehouse - 1 Malvern Road

Tesla Wellington is a new large (3500m2) warehouse facility at the bottom of the Ngauranga Gorge in Wellington for Telsa to operate as a show room, office and servicing centre. The subject site located directly next to the Ngauranga interchange flyover had been identified to have liquefaction, ground bearing and slope stability issues for which a structural solution was required.

Spencer Holmes Involvement

Spencer Holmes was initially engaged to provide fire and civil engineering services along with surveying services for the new warehouse development. Spencer Holmes was then later engaged to provide structural engineering services after a previous design was priced as too expensive. The redesign undertaken resulted in a significant reduction in total steel weight used within the structure, making the project financially feasible with construction commencing shortly after.

The proposed building has a clear span of 30 metres constructed of conventional steel, is supported on a gravel raft due to poor ground conditions, with precast panels to the rear of the building to provide slip protection due to the unstable nature of the adjacent bank.
