Ink’d Apartments
Ink’d Apartments located on the corner of Pirie Street and Home Street, Wellington is a medium scale development comprising 26 loft style apartments.
Sitting between Te Aro and Mt Victoria, the development features an extensive use of concrete, which provides not only a resilient building with an industrial aesthetic, but is utilised as a thermal mass to provide a quiet, warm environment.
Ink’d Apartments replace a single storey warehouse building originally constructed on the site and is finished with large scale street art on all elevations creating a now well-known feature building.
Spencer Holmes Involvement
Spencer Holmes was engaged to provide structural, fire, mechanical and civil services for the new apartment development, working alongside Archaus Architects.
Early contractor involvement allowed the construction methodologies and real construction cost to complement the design process. The extensive use of precast panels allowed for an economic and efficient building where the precast panels are utilised as main structure, fire protection and finished surfaces both internally and externally.
Spencer Holmes was involved through the entire design process, from being present in conceptual discussions, providing preliminary schemes, detailed design, and construction monitoring throughout.
