Wellington Waterfront
Lighting & Edge Protection Upgrades

Client: Wellington City Council
Location: Wellington Waterfront
Services: Surveying, Set-out, Visualisation, QA Support

Wellington City Council undertook upgrades to lighting and edge protection infrastructure across the Wellington waterfront precinct to improve safety, visibility, and accessibility. The project included the installation of new building- and pole-mounted lighting, permanent edge treatments, and integration with existing elements in a constrained and high-use public space.

Spencer Holmes provided surveying, spatial, and QA support from early feasibility through to final implementation.

Surveying & Spatial Capture

  • Captured a survey-accurate, geolocated 3D point cloud of the waterfront precinct using a combination of terrestrial LiDAR scanning and UAV-based photogrammetry
  • Produced high-resolution aerial imagery, captured and processed in-house, to support design overlays and planning
  • Delivered a complete set of topographic plans to inform civil design and layout
  • Partnered with an underground locator to compile detailed utility and services plans
  • Provided stakeholders with access to TruView web-based visualisation, enabling remote measurement, context review, and collaborative design assessment

Set-out, Visualisation & QA

  • Carried out the initial set-out of proposed lighting pole locations
  • Created 3D visualisations using point cloud data to communicate pole locations and validate design intent
  • Completed as-built surveys of constructed elements to verify compliance with design tolerances
  • Supported on-site adjustments to pole locations in collaboration with contractors, ensuring real-world conditions were accounted for while maintaining design intent
